Speaking Out Against Alito

One large religious group has decided against supporting Supreme Court nominee Samuel A. Alito. The Union For Reform Judaism, the largest Jewish organization in America, adopted a resolution that said Alito would "shif the ideological balance of the Supreme Court on matters of core concern to the reform movement" on abortion rights, women's rights, civil rights, and the scope of federal power, according to this article. I don't know how much sway this has, as this group has criticized the religious right in the past, but it shows that Alito won't be an automatic acceptance...

i'm pretty disappointed in them. not that it makes a difference since this isn't an election. but how can they come to a solid conclusion before the people assigned to interview him have even done so? we don't have any answers from Alito himself yet. not that he will necessarily answer the hot button questions, but they didn't even wait till he was given the chance.

either way, i just hope people know that the "Union For Reform Judaism" doesn't represent all Jews. i'm not saying i'm for Alito, but i'm not willing to come to a conclusion yet. i also have a pretty jaded opinion of judicial cycles anyway, so i kind of don't care who they pick.
